Glycerin is broadly compatible with most cosmetic ingredients across a wide pH range. At very high concentrations (above ~50%), it can have a dehydrating effect on skin by drawing moisture from deeper layers rather than the environment. Strong oxidizing agents can react with glycerin exothermically and should be avoided in formulation.

Formulation notes

At concentrations above 30% in leave-on products, glycerin may feel tacky and can paradoxically cause dryness in low-humidity environments. Commonly used at 3–10% in most rinse-off and leave-on formulations. Considered safe as used per CIR and EU Cosmetics Regulation with no restricted maximum level for cosmetic use.
